Penguins!

This guy is the cutest thing ever! He went back and forth and didn’t quite dare to jump in the water.

Osaka and Kyoto

The mountains in the background almost reminded me of Norway.

Haha, I had to take this picture for my Swedish friends. I think they meant to write “Nord kaffe” and not “Nörd kaffe”. Nordic coffee and Nerdy coffee…

Osaka from the hotel window.

Cute barber shop.

Chinese medicine!

金閣寺

We went on a trip to Kyoto and Osaka a couple of weeks back, and the one thing I really wanted to see in Kyoto was Kinkakuji! It was so beautiful, even though it was quite cold for being the start of March.

寿司食べ放題

About a month ago, we went to all-you-can-eat-sushi in Roppongi. I broke my old record, and ate over 30 pieces. I felt fine there and then, but oh my, I haven’t been this stuffed for a while. The sushi was actually quite decent quality for being at an all-you-can-eat-place, but for the price (almost 5000 yen pr. person) I could have had a lot of delicious sushi from the local sushi place up the street from where I live as well. So the conclusion is, it was a fun and delicious experience, but in the future I think I would prefer going to a regular sushiyasan.

Coffee

I have 28 drafts filled with pictures ready to post, so I might as well just start. Here is a cute cafe I went to in Shinjuku together with one of my students, probably over a month ago. I love how they draw little animals in the coffee.

crab party

Some friends got some nice crabs sent all the way from Hokkaido, so we decided to have a crab-wine-and-cheese-party. Everything was delicious, even though I wouldn’t recommend eating crab on a first date, it was quite a messy experience to get all the crab meat out of the little buggers.

Lee Bul

When I went to the Mori Tower a couple of weeks ago to take pictures of the view, I also saw a great exhibition by Lee Bul, “From me, belongs to you only”. I wish it was allowed to take pictures of the exhibition, I could spend hours taking pictures of her beautiful creations, but no pictures were allowed, so I only found these two to show here on the blog. If you are in Tokyo and like contemporary art and design, you should check out the exhibition. Really gorgeous work!

Shinjuku Gyoen

I have no idea why, but I have ended up in Shinjuku Gyoen several times lately. Here are some pictures I took when I walked for a stroll alone a couple of weeks back. It almost felt like spring 🙂

And lo and behold – I discovered that my camera had all sorts of fancy settings which probably equate to the lens-flare-filter in Photoshop. God damn awful but so much fun. Now I want to add stars to everything, despite my logical inner voice trying to tell me it doesn’t look fancy, only tacky. Whatever, it glitters.

(And yes, I know that the effects on the last one here is completely overkill, but how cool isn’t it that there are all kinds of whacky effects built into the camera? Got a little bit to trigger happy on the filter effects here though, but it was too much fun pushing all the buttons at once to see what happened.)
