Fyra Fina Flickor

Hello Sandwich moved to Tokyo, and makes the most beautiful things from very simple parts. I am always amazed with how pretty her things turn out. I want to go to her workshop next month.

Gunvor is an absolutely amazing illustrator (which I even used to share artist space with a couple of years back!), and she has gotten great success in the real world, but more people should read her blog! Heck, I hardly knew she had a blog until I all of a sudden rediscovered it.

I have no idea how Jessica-Naomi makes time to do all the amazing things she produce, in between sketchbooks, perfumes, jewelry, sowing and crafting and taking pictures – I would need about 5 of me to produce half of the things she produces.

Sandra Juto draws amazing things, but she also takes cute pictures and I love seeing all of her little projects and pictures from everyday life.

Cinemagraphs

All pictures belong to From Me To You.

I have been seeing these beautiful beautiful picures popping up all over the web, for the past half year or so, but it wasn’t until I read Jason’s blog that I realized those kinds of pictures had a name! I want to try to make something like this as well, they look so beautiful!

Kunstformen der Natur

YAY! I am happy! I knew I had seen these illustrations on the internet somewhere with a download link for the entire book, but I lost the link some time ago, until I found it again today! So! This is a couple of scans from “Kunstformen der Natur”, and since I love both science, design and art, my inner nerd officially very satisfied atm! One amazing person has scanned the pages and you can see / download them all here in BIG SIZE! Oh, the joy 🙂

Manhattan in motion

Mindrelic – Manhattan in motion from Mindrelic on Vimeo.

This made me want to go to New York! I probably will not be able to go for quite some time, but wow, this video made me lust for it. I wonder if I will ever find more places like Tokyo, where you just feel so at home. I love the way both New York and Tokyo looks, but I also love the feeling of politeness, safeness and security and not to mention the cleanliness that Tokyo provides. I feel safer in Tokyo than I have ever felt anywhere else, including smaller cities in the north of Europe.& completely unrelated, I want to shoot time-lapse movies as well, but I have to say that I do not understand all of the equipment.

愛燦燦 美空ひばり

Ok, the video part of this video is just pictures of flowers, but the song! Omg, the song. I think I have a new favorite song. I love Hibari Misora, but I do not know all of her songs, but yesterday I heard this song again and actually got the title, and went straight home and looked it up on youtube. And omg. The text. So beautiful. I turned into this big blobby sappy thing, crying and smiling and whatnot. I realize I sometimes I have musical taste like someone’s grandmother, but I don’t really care.

Yesterday was a lot of fun btw, we went to Chiba for the evening. Go inaka! Chiba is the prefecture next to Tokyo in the east, and among other things Disneyland and Narita airport are in Chiba. Still, I have never really been much in Chiba, apart from trips to the airport and trips to Disneyland. Anyhow, we ate sushi and drank some sake at the sushi-bar, went to a bar that my partner used to go to from about 18 years ago, and everyone in the bar was old enough to be my parents, or grandparents. Hohum. They were singing karaoke and drinking shōchū, and we sang too, in the middle of drinking sake and smoking too many cigarettes. Oh joy. Life is grand, and I feel like I just consumed about 10 cans like this:

Jenny Lewis with The Watson Twins – Rise Up With Fists

Good morning! So far this morning I have been efficient as a little raccoon, I got up at 6:30 and started doing homework. Let’s see if I can keep it up until 12:00! Drinking coffee and listening to songs like the one above, it is a good morning. Have a wonderful day so far!

Jane Birkin et Serge Gainsbourg – Je T’aime

When I was a kid, I think this was the first song I absolutely fell in love with. I remember my mother mentioning something to me that the song was not suited for kids (probably because of the huffing and puffing and sexual connotations), but I did not understand French and I just loved the melody, and I would jump over to the radio and just sit there and listen to the song intensely whenever it came on. Obviously, the song did not come on very often, being late 80’s / early 90’s, and the song was an oldie by that time. In order to ble able to listen to the song whenever I wanted, I transcribed it for piano. Actually, transcribed is not the right word, I played it over and over again on the piano until I got it right, but I did not transcribe it until quite a few years later when I could actually get the concept sheet music well enough to write it down. I had no idea who made the song or where it was from even when I finally transcribed it, but I eventually figured it out. Knowing where it was from did not help me much in obtaining it though, this was before youtube, before piratebay, before limewire and even before napster and before I would spend any pocket money I had on a CD. I bet I will turn into this grumpy granny at one point in my life, where I will sit in my chair and smoke cigarettes with a long mouthpiece and say things like “I am telling you kids of today – you’ve got it easy! You can just do an internet search and check spotify or youtube or an internet-savy friend, and you will get your fix. Oh no, it was different when I was a youngster…” Good lord, I should stop rambeling and get ready for my day now. Good Friday to you!

The Mountain by Terje Sorgjerd

The Mountain from Terje Sorgjerd on Vimeo.

I have been meaning to post this absolutely amazing video by Terje Sørgjerd for days now, but I have been a bit too busy to be able to post everything I wanted. Better late than never. You HAVE to see this full screen. I think it is one of the most beautiful things I have seen. I especially like how the clouds in some parts of the movies have been sped up, and look like waves and water. And the stars, god lord, it is just … out of this world. I love earth.

The Market by Terje Sorgjerd

The Market from Terje Sorgjerd on Vimeo.

“Bangkok’s Maeklong Market has been in existence for decades. It remained relatively undisturbed until the later creation of the Maeklong Railway and, contrary to what you might see in the United States and in other parts of the world, there was no eminent domain law forcing market vendors to move.

The result? Every single day the Maeklong Railway line passes through Maeklong – 8 times a day, 7 days per week. The train literally runs directly through the middle of the market, forcing vendors to pull back their awnings and wares while shoppers find a place to step off of the track that serves as their only walkway.”

I know I just posted another video made by Terje Sorgjerd, but I am just so impressed with all of his videos. He makes me want to learn how to edit video… I have no idea where to start though.
